Phoenix Rising

O, to live a humble life
A life that fortune cannot pawn
Beyond the twisted fallacies
Of hoodwinked fools with egos torn.

To walk where fleeting ravens caw
In pastures free of mankind’s sting
To live each day considerately
Beside my muse, the feral wind.

To seek out life’s philosophy
Without a pre-recorded script
Below a pool of glistening stars
I’ll be the master of my ship.

To meekly live beyond
The countless burdens of society
Upon a solitary path
Regardless of propriety.

Life vexes me to comprehend
Why liberty is steeply priced
I long to claim what is my right
To answer to no Lord or Sire.

To sense what is invisible
To confront false realities
To live each day, remembering
It is my birthright to be free.

Society may pity me
Though I seek nothing more than bliss
Is it too hard to recognise
A phoenix rising from the depths?

With open eyes, I’ll spread my wings
And flee the flames of wretchedness
Upon my path, I shall withhold
The key to my own happiness.

I am Woman

I am Woman

I am real
Composed of unique beauty
My blemishes are symbols
Of my authenticity

Born to a society
Of many shapes and sizes
Camouflaged and urged to change
The realness it despises
A human being scrutinised
By money-driven prophets
A hostage of supremacy
A mutilated object
We mask the facets of ourselves
Deemed far too coarse to show
Through images and crude remarks
Our self-esteem is blown

A woman withholds magic
She is bona fide and true
But every day, she buries it
To pacify world views
A suffragette of liberty
Coerced into the kitchen
And peer-pressured into bitching

Our realness entails crooked smiles
And time etched onto skin
A wild array of windswept manes
And freckle-dappled chins
Our blessed frames are formed to birth
A mighty generation
Overcome by influence
And counterfeit perfections

The arrows of conformity
Shan’t penetrate our skin
For we are REAL and we withhold
A power deep within
We are a tribe of goddesses
Built for the roles of legends
No airbrushed, twisted fallacies
That advocate rejection

We rise in our divergent hues
With timeworn hands and faces
We bear the marks of motherhood
Fierce matriarchs of ages
We carry bags beneath our eyes
And childbirth’s jagged medals
We hold no limitations
And embrace our native vessels
We claim our eccentricities
For we are born untamed
The Goddess walks in many forms
Regardless of her age

We don variant colours
And our iridescent roots
For we are valiant rarities
Not dainty prostitutes
The world is missing everything
A woman has to give
Her sweetness and her mission
To emit her peace within

Woman is black
Woman is white
Her force is truly boundless
A queen of peaceful voyages
A child of resoluteness
She is awake
She is prepared
To stand by her convictions
She is equal
She is enough
She endures no restrictions

Dear woman, you are beautiful
Don’t ever f**king change
Society is rotten
Don’t you ever suffer shame
Show off your brazen scars and curves
Your feminine artistry
Yield to the world your thunderous roar

Land of the Free

Land of the Free

I come from lands far, far away
Where peace is king and children play
Where man shows gratitude each day
Walking the path of the old ways

Our modern world burdens my soul
It suffocates and breeds turmoil
Society feels oh, so cold
My freedoms lost, my beauties sold

The sounds and chaos plague the air
Pure greed and violence everywhere
The want and want and lack of share
The callous souls without a care

I run and run unto the breeze
Where ancient voices beckon me
I run and run, I run some more
Seeking escape to distant shores
My heart feels wistful to the core
I long for home, I long to soar
I seek a land beyond man’s war
My soul cries out an ancient roar

When will this madness ever end?
This modern life I cannot bend
Where is my tribe? Show me a friend
I can’t survive, I won’t pretend

A concrete graveyard is no home
No land of green for man to roam
Why must each grain of soil be owned?
Why is man poisoned to the bone?

Survival lies upon the soil
In forests rich with life galore
Where ancient souls long to explore
Where beauty whispers, life is pure

In Mother Nature, solace lies
Where flowers grow, my soul shall rise
Unto the breeze, unto the skies
Where eagles soar, my freedom cries

Give back the land, give back the trees
Release the wild for all to see
Let life be life, let mankind be
Return to us the land of free

The Final Chapter

The Final Chapter

To the air, I pledge my final breath
To the earth, I pledge my body
To the water, I pledge my closing tears
To the fire, I pledge my story

Don’t let your sad heart weep for me
Upon my final breath
For life goes on in paradise
The passageway is death

My shell is gone, but I live on
Through fables and fine tales
So, sit about the fire pit
Bring me to life again

The moon will shine, the sun will rise
The birds will sing their songs
Go, search for me in whispering trees
Where resting souls live on

My sunlit smile and glistening eyes
My everlasting kindness
Will grace your days throughout the years
My love is truly boundless

So, breathe me back to life again
Through joy and endless laughter
Don’t wave goodbye forever
This is not the final chapter

The curtain call commands us all
But shall not tear asunder
Our souls shall soar the dazzling skies
Where once again we’ll wander

Sonnet of Darkness

Sonnet of Darkness

My lips whisper sweet nothings
My eyes keep cloudless skies
My head is full of daydreams
My heart holds butterflies

But in my darkest moments
When winter haunts my days
My feelings conjure tempests
Breaking my merry ways

But still, you love me madly
It tears me up inside
To know, I make you suffer
You never question why

My heart tells tales of meadows
That soothe the saddest souls
Exhibiting my hopes and dreams
Avoiding my black hole

But then, the nightmares enter
Chasing my joy away
My light ceases to blossom
All happiness decays

But still, you hold me closer
Resisting savage storms
Returning me to paradise
Healing our love once more

My love reads like the seasons
Blowing from hot to cold
An inconsistent paradise
Seen through a fixed blindfold

Please know, within my nightmares
My heart loves endlessly
You are my loyal lighthouse
Shining on stormy seas

You guide me back to safety
Inviting me to shore
Returning me to paradise
To love you evermore

The frailty of a broken mind
Can test the strongest bonds
Hold on with all you have to give
In tempests, love lives on
